Whenever I need a dress for a major event or a night out with the ladies I go on a serious thrifting mission. I go straight to the dress section in which ever second hand store or vintage boutique I stumble upon and go on a dress hunt. Sometimes I have a theme and sometimes I don’t. It honestly all depends on my mood, as well as my level of inspiration. As of lately, I’ve been watching a lot reruns of The Cosby Show. I’ve come to realize that Clair Huxtable is my muse and my source of inspiration. I always loved Clair, even as a child wishing I were apart of the Cosby family, but at that time who didn’t? Yet, as I watch the show I find myself looking at Clairs’ wardrobe, she wore some great cocktail/party dresses. My favourite episodes would be when her and Bill would be getting ready for a night on the town the dresses she wore were breath taking.
With Clair in mind, I went shopping for a perfect dress. It took awhile, but then I came across this paisley print dress I feel in love with the vibrant colours and all over busy flowing design. It yelled out Clair Huxtable right away! I took it to the fitting room and it fit me like a glove- I love when that happens. But of course it’s very rare that my dress finds are in perfect condition to wear right off the rack. With this dress as you can see the before was an awkward ankle length dress which for my height does not do justice for my figure. First and only step to transform this dress was to shorten that hem line and taper it in a bit on the sides to give it a slim fit. I was very happy with the end product and it came in handy for a couple of events I attended in the past few months.
